TAB: Tom's Anime Blog

This is another series from the spring/summer season that I've been following. While very shoujoish, and not at all earth-shattering, this series tells a cute story about the very odd family formed by high-school playboy Kippei and kindergartener Yuzue.

After coming off a few episodes featuring a girl who stalked Yuzue to get to Kippei, with episode 6 the series returned to focus on the core characters. This lead to the best episode so far, in which it is finally pointed out to Kippei that Yuzue is wearing a different uniform then the rest of the students in her kindergarten. A new uniform is acquired, but Yuzue refuses to wear it. What makes this interesting is the reasoning that goes through her head.

To some extent, this is what Aishiteruze Baby is about, with Kippei trying to figure out exactly what is motivating Yuzue at any point it time.

One thing that keeps a series interesting is for the audience to know early in advance the threat that the main characters will be facing in the future... a sort of sword of damocles. We keep watching to know exactly what will happen. Here, the threat to the main characters is the return of Yuzue's absent mother, and the possible breakup of their family unit.

I'll call this a good episode, and again reserve judgement on the series as a whole.
